诗歌(Reading and Understanding Poetry)(课程预览)

有没有like或as?

明喻(Simile)用like或as作比较The bus climbed, slow as honey.
The sun was a coin dropped in the sea.
The old gate sighed.
Wet wind whipped the washing.
The smell of hot chips and sunscreen
7

The Bus Home(我们的练习诗)
The school bus groans up Hollow Hill,
its windows fogged with breath and chatter.
The sun is a coin dropped in the sea,
and still the bus climbs, slow as honey.

题目:In line three, the sun is "a coin dropped in the sea". What does the poet suggest?

The sun is a coin dropped in the sea”
有没有like或as?

把“the sun is a coin”说成明喻查有没有like或as
只看字面意思“The trees bend over in the wind.”

Westerly

The westerly arrives before breakfast, shouldering the side gate open, rattling the pegs in their bucket like a pocketful of loose change.

By nine the line is a ship in full sail: sheets bellying out, white and enormous, Dad's work shirts flinging up their arms as if the whole street had scored a goal.

The towels try to leave. The socks cling on by a single peg each, small and stubborn, kicking at nothing. Mum holds the basket on her hip and laughs into the wind until it steals the laugh as well.

All day the wind takes, and takes, and takes: leaves from the gutter, the dog's good mood, a tea towel we will never see again.

Then, near dusk, it simply stops. The sheets hang down, exhausted, quiet. I carry them in against my chest, still warm, smelling of sun and distance, and fold the whole wild day into squares.

In the second verse, Dad's work shirts are "flinging up their arms". The poet presents the shirts as if they are

  1. A

struggling hard to break free of their pegs.

  2. B

giving up, like someone who has been caught.

  3. C

waving goodbye, as if about to fly away.

  4. D

cheering wildly, as if celebrating a big win.

Answer: D

The line goes on: "as if the whole street had scored a goal". People fling up their arms like this when they cheer a goal, so the shirts are pictured as excited fans celebrating.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A: Struggling against the pegs describes the socks 'kicking at nothing', not the shirts.
  • B: Raised arms can mean surrender, but the next line links them to scoring a goal.
  • C: It is the towels that 'try to leave', not the shirts.

    爸爸的工作衬衫“flinging up their arms”。

  4. 效果

往下读:“as if the whole street had scored a goal”。

明喻用like或as作比较:“fought like a lion”。暗喻直接说就是:“was a lion in the fight”。
