How SelectiveReady checks its facts and practice questions
Independent. Not affiliated with the NSW Department of Education.
Every NSW exam date, number and rule on SelectiveReady comes from the Department of Education, its schools or another NSW agency. We save each source's exact words: 1,9161SelectiveReady · 12 October 2026 · Published facts from 2641SelectiveReady · 12 October 2026 · Published pages and documents, each with its check date.

How does SelectiveReady check its facts?
Each fact starts on a source page, from the Department or the school itself, and is saved before it reaches ours. We keep a copy of the page, the exact words that support the fact, and the day we checked it.
NSW exam facts in our facts file
Source pages and documents behind them
Find the source page
The NSW Department of Education's or the school's own page or document, never a forum, a tutoring site or a search snippet.
Save it and quote it
We save a copy of the page and the exact words, up to a short sentence or two, that state the fact.
Record what it supports
The writer notes that the quote supports this exact value, exam, year and school, and dates the check.
Label it on the page
The number carries a label with its status, its source and the day we last checked it.
These counts come straight from the facts file each time the site is built, so they change as facts are added.
What does each label on a number mean?
The label tells you how sure a date or number is. Tap it to see the source and the check date.
| Label | What it means | An example today |
|---|---|---|
| Published | The Department has stated it | The reserve decision date, 3 December 2026, 3 pm (Sydney time)2NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published |
| Expected | From the Department's usual cycle, not yet confirmed | The next Selective test, in early May 2027 Expected2NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Expected |
| Not published | The Department hasn't said; the label shows when we looked | The next round's exact dates: Not published2NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Not published |
We never fill a gap from memory, a forum or another provider. An expected date never gets a countdown and never goes into a calendar feed.
What happens when the Department changes something?
We change the fact once, and every page that shows it changes with it. The change goes into the corrections log below, with the old value, the new value and the date.
Any image that shows the fact is redrawn and checked again. See what has changed in the tests.
Do the pages for other states work the same way?
Yes. Facts for other states come from that state's own exam body: its education department, the test provider or the school. Those facts aren't in the NSW counts above.
How can you check a fact yourself?
Tap the small number beside it, then open the source. Every page ends with a list of the sources it uses, each linked to the original page.
Tap the number beside the fact
It shows where the fact came from, its label and the day we last checked it.
Open the source at the foot of the page
The list of sources and checks links to each source page or document we used.
Find the words on that page
The fact should match what the page says today. Pages change, so look for the date on our label.

How are the practice questions written and checked?
They're written for the Selective test and checked before they go live. We write our own questions and link to the Department's sample tests instead of copying them, because those are for personal use only. 4NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published
Written for the right test and year, in the Department's published format.
The answer is worked out a second time, separately, and both answers must agree.
Diagrams and figures are checked as they appear on screen.
The explanation says why the right answer is right and why each other option is wrong.

Selective questions follow the published format: 44NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published sections, with 54NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published answer options in Mathematical Reasoning and 44NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published in Thinking Skills.
What happens if a question turns out to be wrong?
We take it out and publish a new version of the question set. We don't quietly edit a question in place.
If you think a question is wrong, email support@selectiveready.com3SelectiveReady · 12 October 2026 · Published with the section and the question. We'll work it again and reply.
What can our checks show, and what can't they?
They show that a question fits the test's format and that its answer is right. They can't show how your child will do on the real test, and we don't claim they can.
| Claim | What we check | What it doesn't show |
|---|---|---|
| The questions fit the test | Sections, timing, answer options and content, against the Department's pages | That the real test will use the same questions |
| The answer key is right | A second, separate solve that must agree | That a question is equally hard for every child |
| Writing feedback is useful | Each criterion is commented on | A Department mark: it's automated AI feedback, not a Department mark3SelectiveReady · 12 October 2026 · Published |

A practice score can't predict a band or an offer. The Department's bands compare your child with everyone who sat the real test that year 5NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published, and there's no set minimum entry score5NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published for any school.
How does SelectiveReady use AI?
AI writes our public pages, and automated checks hold it to the facts file. An AI model writes every page in English and Chinese from the facts, and AI helps write and solve the practice questions.
Pages
Written by an AI model from the facts file. A check fails the page if a number isn't a labelled fact, or if it uses a claim we never make.
Chinese pages
Written by the same AI model from the same facts, not translated line by line. No person reads them before they go live; automated checks compare each one with its English page.
Practice questions
AI helps write them, and each answer is solved a second time, separately, before the question goes live.
Writing feedback
It's automated AI feedback, not a Department mark3SelectiveReady · 12 October 2026 · Published, and it can be wrong. We won't publish an accuracy figure until it has been tested against human markers.
Our pages are signed "SelectiveReady team". There's no invented author and no AI byline.
What can the automated checks miss?
They catch facts and claims, not tone. They check that every number is a labelled fact, that no claim we never make slips in, and that each Chinese page has the same sections and facts as its English page.
They can't tell whether a sentence reads kindly, whether a Chinese phrase sounds natural, or whether advice fits your family. If something reads wrongly in either language, email support@selectiveready.com3SelectiveReady · 12 October 2026 · Published and we'll fix it.
What do we never claim?
We never claim to be the Department, to predict an offer, or to know a date before it's published. These rules hold on every page.

Questions parents ask about how SelectiveReady checks
Is SelectiveReady part of the NSW Department of Education?
No. We're independent of the NSW Department of Education3SelectiveReady · 12 October 2026 · Published. Each fact links to the page it came from.
Are your practice questions from past papers?
No. They're our own. The Department's sample tests are for personal use only 4NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published, so we link to them rather than copy them.
Copyright in those tests is owned by Cambridge University Press & Assessment7NSW Education · 13 October 2026 · Published. The Department's web pages use Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)8NSW Education · 13 October 2026 · Published, but that licence doesn't cover the sample tests. 4NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published
Does a person read the Chinese pages?
Not before they go live. The same AI model writes them from the same facts, and automated checks compare them with the English pages. Tell us if something reads wrongly.
How often are facts checked?
Each label shows the day that fact was last checked against its source. If the Department changes a page, the fact and every page that shows it change together.
