Free ACER scholarship practice test

Let your child sit a full ACER-style test at home, on the clock, before the day that counts.
Practice test 1 is free. No card needed.
The short answer
Practice test 1 is a free, full practice test in ACER's Level 1 format: both writing topics, Humanities and Mathematics, on ACER's times. ACER's cooperative test is on 27 February 2027; a sitting now shows what to practise first.

A full, timed test tells you more than a page of loose questions. It shows how your child copes with the clock, and which skills cost the most marks.
Practice test 1 runs in the SelectiveReady app and looks like the paper test: a question booklet beside an answer sheet. You get one full practice test with results, with a free account. That includes AI feedback on both writing topics of Practice test 1.
What is in the ACER scholarship test?
ACER's Level 1 test has Written Expression, Humanities and Mathematics, online or on paper. It's for students entering Year 7 or 8, and the tests are used across Australia to rank scholarship applicants.
Neither multiple-choice test is about what your child has memorised. In Humanities, no specialist knowledge is assumed, and Mathematics aims at mathematical ability rather than school achievement.
| Test | Questions and time | What it asks |
|---|---|---|
| Written Expression | Two topics, 25 minutes each | Extended writing; the two topics invite different styles |
| Humanities | 40–45 multiple-choice questions in 40 minutes | fiction, non-fiction, poetry, cartoons, diagrams and maps |
| Mathematics | 32–36 multiple-choice questions in 40 minutes | mathematical ability rather than school achievement |
What does our ACER practice test include?
Each Practice test is a full test in ACER's Level 1 format, in 4 sections: Writing 1, Humanities, Mathematics and Writing 2. It runs 130 minutes on ACER's published times.
Afterwards your child sees results by section and by skill, with the working for every question. Both pieces of writing get feedback criterion by criterion, in bands. That feedback is practice feedback written by AI, which can be wrong or incomplete and is not a mark from Edutest, ACER or any school, so use it as a practice guide.
How does your child reach the free ACER test?
Set up a free parent account, then choose ACER Scholarship. Your child starts Practice test 1 from there, and no payment card is needed. Their responses and results stay with the account.
How hard is the ACER scholarship test?
Hard on purpose. ACER says its tests are designed to be challenging, because they're used to tell the strongest candidates apart. Expect questions your child can't answer: that's the design, not a sign they're behind.
Humanities asks for judgement about a text, not just finding words in it. In Mathematics, ACER says its questions are drawn from many sources and may differ from school curriculum materials, so the method is rarely obvious.
In the writing, ACER says ideas matter more than length; plan for a couple of minutes. It also asks for original thought about the prompt, not a pre-prepared piece, so a memorised essay won't help. Don't read a low first score as a verdict: it shows where to start.
Should you buy ACER's own practice tests?
Yes, if you can, because they show ACER's own question style. For Level 1, ACER sells two practice tests with different content: an online-only Level 1 practice test, and practice questions online or as a printable PDF booklet.
You buy them through the parent account you register with. ACER says to use them to get familiar with the question types, not to drill, so save them for the last weeks and sit them on the clock.
| ACER practice material | SelectiveReady Practice tests | |
|---|---|---|
| What you can get | practice tests for purchase; no past papers | 15 Practice tests of our own; no past papers |
| Questions | ACER's own practice questions | Our own questions in ACER's sections and times |
| After the test | As ACER describes it | Results by skill and the working for every question |
How do you run a practice test at home?
Treat it as a rehearsal, not homework. ACER's advice is to practise as if it were the real test, to learn the timing, so each of our sections runs on its own clock.
Sit it like the day
One sitting, the real times, pens and pencils, no calculator: ACER doesn't allow rulers, books or papers, calculators, watches or mobile phones.
Plan the writing
A couple of minutes on a plan before each topic, then write. ACER puts ideas ahead of length.
Read the results by skill
Look for the skills that cost the most marks, not the total.
Keep reading widely
ACER's own advice: read widely and think critically.
What should my child do after Practice test 1?
Spend more time on the review than on the test. Read the working together, then pick the skill that cost the most marks and practise just that for a few weeks.
The cooperative test is on 27 February 2027, early in the school year, so plan for most of the preparation to happen in the year before. A couple of terms of steady reading and a few full Practice tests is a sensible plan.
How to prepare for the ACER test turns this into a plan, and ACER scholarship dates has the cooperative date and how schools set their own.
Questions parents ask about ACER practice tests
Are there ACER past papers?
No. ACER sells practice tests but releases no past papers, so anything sold under that name isn't from ACER.
Can a practice score predict a scholarship?
No. The real result ranks your child against that year's applicants, which no practice test can see. Use the score to choose what to practise next, not to guess a school's decision.
What if a school on our list uses Edutest?
Some scholarship schools use Edutest instead of ACER, so check each school's test before you practise. Our Edutest practice test follows that format.
