What does the PEAC test check?
Two kinds of reasoning, in 501WA Education · 12 October 2026 · Published questions. | Part | In the Department's words | What isn't published |
|---|---|---|

Who sits the PEAC test, and who is the program for?
The test is for Year 4 students in WA public schools1WA Education · 12 October 2026 · Published, and the Department says all of them do it.
The program that follows is for Year 5 and 6 students who like extra challenges at school1WA Education · 13 October 2026 · Published. Children in it work on new ideas, think in different ways and learn with students like them1WA Education · 13 October 2026 · Published.
So practice at home should stay light: the test is an ordinary part of Year 4, not an entrance exam.
Why don't we write our own PEAC questions?
Because no official sample shows what the questions look like. Without one, any question we wrote would be a guess at the format, and a guess could mislead you.
We would rather tell you plainly what is published and what isn't. If the Department publishes a PEAC sample, we will link it here first.

How can a Year 4 child practise at home?
Gently, through everyday reading, talk and number play. Tick what suits your family; nothing is saved or sent.
Read together most days, and talk about what a character meant or why something happened.
Play word games: opposites, odd one out, and words that go together.
Do number puzzles and patterns: what comes next, and why.
Practise choosing from a short list: cross out answers that can't be right, then choose. 1WA Education · 13 October 2026 · Published
Keep sessions short, and stop while it's still fun.
Tell your child it's an ordinary school test. If you'd rather they didn't sit it, tell your child's school1WA Education · 12 October 2026 · Published.
How long should practice be?
Short. The PEAC time limit is not published1WA Education · 12 October 2026 · Not published, so there is no official pace to train for. For a Year 4 child, a few calm minutes beat a long drill.
What can you say to your child before the test?
Something short and ordinary, so your child knows what is coming and isn't worried.
"Everyone in Year 4 does it."
It's part of the school year.
"It's word and number puzzles."
The two parts are reasoning with words and reasoning with numbers. 1WA Education · 12 October 2026 · Published
"Some puzzles will feel tricky."
That's normal. Try each one and keep going.

What can practice tell you?
How your child approaches a reasoning question, and whether a type of puzzle feels new. It can't tell you whether your child will be chosen.
The school contacts you if your child is chosen. 1WA Education · 12 October 2026 · Published Your child is more than one test, and so is their Year 4.
What does a PEAC place lead to?
