Blacktown Girls High School: joining the selective stream

For Year 7 it is the NSW Selective test, and nothing else. ^{1NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published} The application goes to the NSW Department of Education, which sets the test and sends out the offers, rather than to the school.

Most girls sit the test in Year 6^{1NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published}. Your application can name up to 3^{2NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published} schools, and offers depend on test performance and the order of your school choices^{2NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published}.

How long does the selective stream last?

Six years. The school's selective stream runs through Years 7 to 12^{6Blacktown Girls High School · 13 October 2026 · Published}, beside its comprehensive classes. Put simply, the school has selective classes inside a local high school^{1NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published}.

Blacktown Girls is on Fifth Avenue, Blacktown^{1NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published}, in the Sydney - Blacktown^{8NSW Education data · 13 October 2026 · Published} region. Its travel page links to Busways school timetables and train information.

Eligible students can get free or subsidised travel to and from school^{9Transport for NSW · 13 October 2026 · Published}. Is Blacktown Girls linked to the boys' school next door?

They are neighbours, not one school, and sit on separate sites divided by fencing, each with its own buildings and car park^{10Blacktown Boys High School · 13 October 2026 · Published}. Blacktown Boys has its own selective class and Year 7 places. ^{1NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published}

Yes, through the school's own round, when there are places. To enter in Years 8 to 10, a child sits the Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST), developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER)^{12Blacktown Girls High School · 13 October 2026 · Published}. ^{13NSW Education · 12 October 2026 · Published}

If Blacktown Girls is your first preference, you apply and pay for the test at Blacktown Girls before the closing date, and your child sits it there^{12Blacktown Girls High School · 13 October 2026 · Published}. Vacancies depend on students leaving, and some schools have none in some years^{13NSW Education · 13 October 2026 · Published}.

What is the HAST?

It is a test from ACER, not the Department, so it isn't the Year 7 Selective test. ^{12Blacktown Girls High School · 13 October 2026 · Published} The school's page covers Years 8 to 10; the Department's process runs to Year 11. ^{13NSW Education · 13 October 2026 · Published} The selective enrolment page carries the form and the latest dates.

The Department points parents to their child's interests and abilities, academic and co-curricular needs, social and emotional needs, and any specialised support^{2NSW Education · 13 October 2026 · Published}. Run through the list together; nothing leaves this page.
